Local Artist Spotlight – Desolate Gateway

by Amber Gilliland

Desolate Gateway
Location: Port Orchard, WA

Band Members:
Charlie Horn- Rhythm Guitar and Vocals
Roy Syrovy – Lead guitar and Vocals
Link Sprague – Drums
Bassist: looking for one

Musical Inspirations: Sydney Graves, Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed and Cambria

Rainier Rock: “How long have you been playing together and how did you get started?”
Desolate Gateway: “We have been playing together for 2 years but only a little over a year ago we found the direction we wanted the band to move in and have worked hard to get everything ready for the stage.”

Rainier Rock: “What’s the story behind your band’s name?”
Desolate Gateway: “Link and Roy started just throwing ideas around until it got super abstract. This concept of an astronaut in a universe where everything’s already been explored, but he still wants more. Somehow, he ends up in this cosmic realm he’s not meant to be in, like being alive in the world of the dead. Then Charlie pulled it back into something simpler: Desolate Gateway… A grand cemetery gate where souls pass on. From that, Link wrote the intro to our opening track, “Entrance to Desolation’, as a kind of musical score for death, with a mysterious gatekeeper guiding souls to the other side.”

Rainier Rock: “Favorite song of your band?”
Charlie: No Ties Remain and Entrance to Desolation
Roy: Wither and Land of the Dead
Link: Entrance to Desolation
